Hypnosis for Fear of Dogs (Cynophobia)
WHERE DOES A FEAR OF DOGS COME FROM?
7% of the UK population has a fear of dogs*, also known as Cynophobia. This fear can come from a number of experiences such as a dog-related trauma or lack of positive interaction with dogs in childhood.
Although some caution around new dogs can be appropriate, when we suffer from cynophobia our subconscious will trigger the fight or flight response when in the presence of a canine. This isn’t necessarily helpful and it can cause symptoms like sweating, rapid heart rate, shortness of breath and nausea.
The fear of dogs can be very difficult to cope with because dogs are a big part of society and so our phobia can be triggered on a daily basis. Avoiding dogs will reinforce your subconscious belief that they are to be feared so it’s best to address the issue rather than avoid it.
CAN HYPNOTHERAPY HELP FEAR OF DOGS?
Hypnosis can help you start to challenge the subconscious thoughts that create your fear and change them into feelings of positivity, safety and security. Your hypnotherapy sessions move at your own pace, using deep relaxation techniques and positive suggestions to address the fear and overcome it.
Hypnosis can help you to feel more confident around dogs so that you will be able to gradually have interaction with them at a comfortable level and pace for you.
